UK supermarket chain ASDA is launching a new range of plant-based treats this Christmas, including a vegan cheese board.
According to Good Housekeeping magazine, the chain is set to launch a Chestnut Roast, Vegan Chocolate Caramel Pots, a Vegan Pâté, and a cheese board, which will include three different types of dairy-free cheese – Cheddar style, Wensleydale & Cranberry alternative, and Garlic and Chive Mature Cheddar style.
According to the publication, the new cheese board will be available to purchase for £5 from November 22 onwards.
ASDA isn’t the only supermarket to start planning the launch of its festive range. The UK’s leading supermarket, Tesco, has revealed it will bring back its Christmas Cauliflower Wellington this December, along with other new creations that are yet to be announced.
Back in May, ASDA’s product development manager James Waters stated in a press release, “I always keep track of our customer online reviews and so far they have been positive. We know how big the free from and vegan markets have become and understand that there is a demand for more free from and vegan products, so it’s great to see what it means to customers when we’re able to help more of them enjoy something they love.”
He continued, “We take on all of the feedback and will try to keep improving our range. We have some new flavours launching in August which we’re really excited about so we should have a lovely range on our shelves to give customers the option of a free from cheese board in plenty of time for Christmas!”
The new festive range is not the first vegan Christmas offering from the chain. Last year, it introduced vegan mince pies, stating its prediction that 18 million units of the product would sell over the festive period. Since then, throughout 2018, the supermarket has launched new vegan cheeses, hot cross buns, salads, sandwiches, wraps, and a summer BBQ range.
In May, ASDA chef and product developer Andrew Johnston said, “we’re committed to catering for the growing number of ASDA customers following a vegan diet.”
