Revolutionary plant-based protein brand, Beyond Meat announced today that their Beyond Burger will soon be stocked across an additional 600 US stores, bringing their total distribution count to 1,300 grocery outlets across America! Their expansion has attracted attention of many, and this latest announcement marks a more than tripled distribution growth for the Beyond Burger within a mere two months.

It’s fair to say that with the interest garnered from the likes of US meatpacking giant, Tyson foods and a growing public demand for vegan alternatives, Beyond Meat’s rapid ascend is simply reflective of the market place, indicating that they are successfully meeting new consumer demands.

When discussing the rise of plant-based alternatives to meat, the new CEO of Tyson Foods (which own a 5% stake in Beyond Meat) said, “if you take a look at the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) stats, protein consumption is growing around the world—and it continues to grow. It’s not just hot in the U.S.; it’s hot everywhere, people want protein, so whether it’s animal-based protein or plant-based protein, they have an appetite for it. Plant-based protein is growing almost, at this point, a little faster than animal-based, so I think the migration may continue in that direction”.

Tyson have previously made headlines when a strain of bird flu was detected at one of its chicken farms and have also faced charges of chicken abuse and price fixing.

As from today though, your options for eating anything other than meat just got easier as The Beyond Burger will be rolling out in 605 Kroger-owned stores, across 13 US states.

Within the next 4 weeks, the distribution should be complete and retailers currently included are Ralph’s, King Soopers and Kroger stores with Fred Meyer locations set for some time in August (you can see the full list here, on the Beyond Meat Blog!)

So why choose a Beyond Burger over your traditional hamburger from Wendy’s?

Well not only does this patty look, cook and eat just like a regular burger, this cutting edge plant based patty boasts 20g of protein, is naturally cholesterol free and contains nearly half the saturated fat you’d expect to find in an average beef burger. It’s also GMO, soy and gluten free. Win/win/win/win? This break-through announcement is surely set to somewhat relieve consumers’ growing concerns around personal health, animal agriculture practices and environmental damage.

With their entire product range available at 11,000 stores nationwide and counting, the Beyond Burger has unprecedented growth which we can only hope follows suit with the rest of their range which include a vegan ground beef substitute and ‘chicken’ strips.

Furthermore, The Beyond Burger have recently been added to the menus of two of the nation’s front running burger chains (Epic Burger and BurgerFi), the meat aisles of 23 Heinen’s stores in Illinois and Ohio and have further expanded into Safeway stores and Whole Foods.

BBQ anyone?
