Are ‘bleeding’ vegan burgers coming to the UK? Recently, both Impossible Food and Beyond Meat, the two companies who make the ultra-realistic meat substitute, have both been receiving a lot of media attention and a lot of money. Billionaire Bill Gates has invested in both food companies and recently Beyond Meat landed a deal which means the burgers will now be available in supermarket across the USA. But are world famous vegan burgers making their way over the Atlantic to the UK?

The Coventry Telegraph have recently reported that the growth of the companies could mean that the UK is ‘next in line’ to receive the sought after burger. Both companies make their burgers out of purely plant-based ingredients and they make impressive claims when it comes to the impact of their burgers on the environment. The impossible burger boasts 95% less land, 74% less water, and creates 87% less greenhouse gas emissions, which is enough to entice anyone regardless of whether they are vegan or not.

Beyond Meat recently made a deal with Kroger, the largest operator of supermarkets in the US, which allows them to stock the product in more than 600 stores in 13 states across the country. It’s even going to be presented alongside meat products which means that it could be the first real rival of meat items for people who don’t usually choose plant-based foods.

Increasingly we’re becoming aware of the impact our food choices have on the environment and plant-based foods are no longer just appealing to people who are concerned with animal welfare.

If the ‘bleeding’ burger really is coming to the UK it could revolutionise the average rainy BBQ as people become more aware of their carbon footprint.
