Beyond Meat is launching frozen vegan breakfast sausages in select retailers.
With 11 grams of protein per serving, the Beyond Breakfast Sausage offers the same texture and taste of traditional pork sausages. It has 50 percent less fat, 35 percent less saturated fat and sodium, and 33 percent fewer calories than its meat counterpart.
The new sausages—free from GMOs, gluten, soy, and artificially produced ingredients—are available in two flavors: classic and spicy. According to the brand, they can go from frozen to finished in under five minutes.
Coast-to-coast retailers offering the new vegan patties include ACME, ShopRite, Whole Foods, Wegmans, Albertsons, and Vons.
Chuck Muth, Beyond Meat’s chief growth officer, said in a statement: “introducing Beyond Breakfast Sausage at retail stores is an exciting next step for our brand as we continue to invest in expanding opportunities for shoppers to enjoy our products at home.”
“We’re very pleased with our retail momentum to date and entering the breakfast meat category was the natural next step for our brand as we look at our runway for future growth,” he added.
The Beyond Sausage Sandwich
The Beyond Sausage is already available in select fast-food and coffee chains. Dunkin’ Donuts is the first U.S. chain to serve the new product.
Dunkin’ introduced the Beyond Sausage Sandwich at 163 locations in Manhattan last July. After much success, it launched the new breakfast item nationwide last fall.
“We are excited that everyone who runs on Dunkin’ now has the option to make a delicious plant-based sausage sandwich part of their day,” said Beyond Meat founder and CEO Ethan Brown in a statement.
Tim Hortons and A&W Canada began selling the vegan sausages in Canada last spring. Tim Hortons pulled the new item from all of its locations except those in Ontario and British Columbia last September.
This month, Starbucks added the vegan sausage patty to its spring menu in Canada locations. The new sandwich features a Beyond Meat patty, cheddar cheese, and an egg on an artisan bun.
The Beyond Breakfast Sausage will be available from select retailers by the end of March and will cost $4.99 for a box of six.
