The hunt for the perfect vegan cookie is constant. Some are too sweet. Others leave a pile of crumbs on your work desk — or worse — in your keyboard. Others disintegrate upon contact with plant-based milk, leaving you with mushy milk and no cookie. The team behind Fat Badger Bakery know the struggles all too well. And the significance of cookies. Martha Stewart once said: “I think baking cookies is equal to Queen Victoria running an empire. There’s no difference in how seriously you take the job, how seriously you approach your whole life.”

The search for the perfect cookie led them to roll up their sleeves, get in the kitchen and make their own.

The Perfect Vegan Cookie

There’s nothing like vegan milk and cookies. | Fat Badger Bakery

The Pennsylvania-based bakery specializes in small-batch cookies made without eggs, dairy, synthetic or genetically modified ingredients, hydrogenated trans fats, artificial flavors, or preservatives. Everything is certified vegan, right down to the bone char-free sugar (PSA: some companies use animal bones to give sugar its pure white color).

“Flavor is king when it comes to cookies. You can’t create flavor-forward baked goods without using great ingredients,” says Gretchen Dossa, General Manager at Fat Badger.

But it wasn’t always a plant-based company. Fat Badger, formerly known as the Nomoo Cookie Company, ditched eggs last summer after noticing that its vegan cookies were a huge hit with customers. Now, the company’s main priority is making the tastiest cookies on the market. The cookies are also certified kosher by the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America.

“We seek out fruits, dark chocolate and vanilla that make Fat Badger cookies rival even the most delicious homemade treats,” says Dossa.

Fat Badger sells its vegan cookies in natural supermarkets across the country and online. Everything is baked and shipped from its dedicated egg-free, dairy-free, and peanut-free facility on the same day you order, so you get to enjoy vegan cookies at their best — preferably with a glass of oat milk on the side. Fat Badger also takes wholesale orders for offices and catering. Who doesn’t like walking into work to a big box of vegan chocolate chip cookies?

All About That Flavor

This Brand Ditched Eggs and Created the Perfect Vegan Cookie
From classic chocolate chip to seasonal delights, Fat Badger Bakery has a cookie for every mood (or star sign).

As for which flavor to go for?

Varieties draw inspiration from classic homemade cookie flavors, like Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal, and Cinnamon Sugar. It’s not just about evoking nostalgia, though — there are also fun flavors like Toasted Coconut and Sweet Raspberry.

Chocolate mint has a fudgy texture with a hint of tingling peppermint that awakens the taste buds. Classic chocolate chip has big chunks of dairy-free chocolate mixed with creamy vanilla and oats; the perfect ratio of sweet, chewy, and chocolate. The fan-favorite chocolate sea salt blurs the line between brownie and cookie with a sprinkle of shaved sea salt contrasting rich, dark cocoa. Cookies were crafted to taste just like — or even better than — homemade, thanks to Fat Badger’s commitment to quality ingredients.

Fat Badger also has seasonal boxes featuring flavors of the moment. The summer box features flavors like buttery coconut with dried pineapple, toasted macadamia notes, and apricot swirls.

But if you just can’t choose (relatable), then you can opt for an assorted sampler box designed for chocolate lovers, sweet tooths, or people who want to try it all. Dossa’s advice? “Choose a flavor that sings to your taste buds.”
