British Grand Prix Hosts Vegan BBQ for Lewis Hamilton

The British Grand Prix hosted a vegan BBQ for five-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton and his team.

Hamilton posted about the BBQ — which served Beyond Meat’s “bleeding” plant-based burgers and its pork-like sausages — on his Instagram stories.

“We’re at the British Grand Prix and we decided to throw a Caribbean BBQ for my team,” he explains in the video. “Everyone’s come out on a Thursday night because everyone generally finishes early on a Thursday night. I’ve got everyone trying the Beyond Meat burger and sausage, which are incredible.”

“A lot of my guys have never tried it before and they all love it, especially with a bit of hot sauce and everything,” he added. “It’s all vegan. Beyond Meat is all vegan, plant-based. Once you go Beyond Meat, you ain’t going back.”

Beyond Meat — which recently held one of the biggest IPOs seen in the U.S. in 20 years — makes its vegan meat products out of pea protein. Its main mission is to transform the food system, shifting it away from animal agriculture.

“By shifting from animal to plant-based meat, we are creating one savory solution that solves four growing issues attributed to livestock production: human health, climate change, constraints on natural resources and animal welfare,” its website notes.

Lewis Hamilton’s Vegan Journey

Hamilton initially opted to ditch meat for health reasons after watching the 2017 documentary “What the Health,” which takes an in-depth look at the food industry and how our consumption of animal products is harming our bodies.

Since watching the documentary, the racing star has spoken out on numerous occasions about how good he feels. He even credited his plant-based diet as a reason behind his career success. He told CNN back in 2017, “I do feel the best I’ve ever felt in my life, in my 32 years, physically.”

Since then, Hamilton has discovered the ethical side of veganism. He continually uses his platform to speak up for the animals. Earlier this year, he posted an image of a donkey pulling a cart on his Instagram stories. “I just wish I could be there to give this beautiful animal a hug, take him away from this pain and bring light into their life,” he captioned the post.

“It is such a cruel world, how can somebody do these things to other beings. Gives me so much pain in my heart,” he added.

The racing champion has also spoken out about Iceland’s whale hunt, co-produced the new vegan documentary “The Game Changers,” and launched a vegan sneaker collection with Tommy Hilfiger.
