Butlins is now serving up vegan meat.
The UK-based seaside resort chain, which built its first site in 1936, typically features meat and dairy-based meals on its menus. Now, the resort chain is stepping up its game, introducing vegan burgers and plant-based meat tacos to its menus.
Butlins’ new menu features dairy-free cheese and vegan meat from Oumph! and Moving Mountains. The latter brand’s food appears in the Veggie Mountain burger, which features two Moving Mountains patties, vegan tata tots, nachos, guacamole, and melted vegan cheese.
In partnership with plant-based food manufacturer Oumph!, Butlins is serving starter tacos and a House Cobb salad, both with Griddled Oumph! soya meat.
Various vegan sides are available at Butlins including crispy battered onion rings, cajun spiced corn on the cob, fries, and salad.
The new menu items were inspired by the upped demand for vegan and vegetarian food, which Butlins has witnessed over the past year, according to Jenny Cooper, head of F&B and retail marketing at Butlins.
She said in a statement, “We are really proud of our exciting new menu in The Diner and are pleased to be offering our guests the choice of Oumph! as a vegan topping on our ‘Traditional Tacos’ as well as the ‘House Cobb Salad.'”
“Our new menu features everything from authentic American dishes and build your own burgers to delicious thick shakes, delighting our guests and providing great value for money,” Cooper added.
She noted that Oumph! is the “perfect choice” for the resort chain due to its versatility in various dishes and the fact that it is vegan and gluten-free.
Dave Smith, head of UK foodservice at Oumph!, commented that the brand is “pleased” that a family-focused venue like Butlins is introducing its plant-based meat. “No doubt this will be very welcome for the ever-increasing number of Oumph! fans among vegetarians, vegans and flexitarians,” he said.
Oumph! is becoming more popular. The Swedish vegan food brand is available at 400 Tesco stores around the UK. In February, Oumph! launched in Lidl supermarkets in Sweden. The brand has plans to expand throughout Europe.
Butlins’ new vegan dishes are now available at diners in Minehead and Bognor Regis.
