£1 Buttery Vegan Croissants Are Coming to Carluccio’s

£1 Buttery Vegan Croissants Now At Carluccio’s

High street Italian restaurant chain Carluccio’s is adding two new vegan croissants to the menu: the Croissant Vegano and the Saccottini al Cioccolato (similar to a pain au chocolat).

Carluccio’s will begin selling the Croissant Vegano at an introductory price of £1.

“Breakfast is about to get a whole lot sweeter thanks to our new plant-based sourdough croissants,” says Carluccio’s on its website. “Not only be welcomed by vegans but anyone looking to enjoy the flakiest of pastries with their morning coffee!”

“There’s no need to sacrifice on taste as you can still enjoy that same cloud-like, flaky and buttery taste with these completely plant-based alternatives free from eggs, butter and milk,” elaborated Carluccio’s. New milk alternatives – including soy, coconut, and oat milk – will also be available providing the perfect non-dairy accompaniment to your vegan morning treat… DELIZIOSO!”

The restaurant goes on to describe the new pastries. It says the Croissant Vegano is made from “a traditional Italian fresh sourdough recipe giving it a tasty and airy lightness, with a sprinkling of cane sugar on top.”

The Saccottini al Cioccolato is described as “the Italian relative of the Pain au chocolat and comes filled with a deliciously rich and creamy hazelnut dark cocoa cream from Italian chocolatier Caffarel, with a sprinkling of edible gold sugar on top.”

Carluccio’s Embraces Vegan Options

A Carluccio’s spokesperson told the Swindon Advertiser, “these new plant-based croissants from Carluccio’s are a welcome addition to a menu that already features a selection of new vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free dishes to cater for all dietary requirements.”

Carluccio’s existing vegan options include a vegan hamper, Minestrone Primavera, Veganesca Spaghetti, Polpette di Fagioli, Blueberry & Polenta Cake, salads, olives, bruschetta, and focaccia.

In 2017, Carluccio’s held a vegetarian pop-up to celebrate its plant-based menu. Neil Wickers — CEO of the chain — said at the time, “[w]e have seen a huge demand for more vegetarian and vegan dishes, many from our millennial diners who are giving up or reducing their meat intake, either for environmental and/or health reasons.”

The Croissant Vegano and the Saccottini al Cioccolato will be available from 14th August.  After August 21st, the Croissant Vegano will be available for £1.50.
