CBD is enjoying a moment right now. From vegan ice cream to chocolate to croissants, the non-psychoactive cannabidiol derived from the cannabis or hemp plant — widely reported to help sufferers of anxiety, depression, and even cancer, multiple sclerosis, and heart disease — seems to be cropping up in a new product every day.
Beauty companies have started using it for its supposed anti-inflammatory benefits, as well as pet companies for its stress-relieving properties, and even some alcohol brands have experimented with the ingredient.
Now — chickpea-lovers rejoice — Cornwall-based Themptation offers CBD-infused hummus.
According to the company, the plant-based CBD-infused sage hummus is “a modern take on the Middle Eastern classic.” Handmade in Cornwall and packaged in 100% recyclable tubs, the hummus is gluten-free, nut-free, and a good source of fiber, as well as omega 3,6, and 9.
Alongside CBD Hummus, the brand offers organic hemp hummus, in original and Beetroot and Pomegranate flavors, as well as Spiced Carrot and Tumeric, and Spinach, Coriander and Lime.
The range, according to the brand, is not only one of its most popular offerings, but also its “tastiest.” It notes that the “authentic flavours” are taken from an old family hummus recipe, which dates back several generations.
University graduate and founder Tom decided to add the “protein-rich hemp seeds and nutty cold pressed hemp seed oil,” to give the age-old recipe a modern twist. According to its website, Themptation aims to show Brits how versatile and beneficial to health the hemp plant can be.
According to Healthline, hemp seeds are high in nutritional value and protein. They can also reportedly aid digestion and may be able to reduce the symptoms of PMS and the menopause.
“Though hemp seeds have only recently become popular in the West, they’re a staple food in many societies and provide excellent nutritional value,” the publication notes. “Overall, hemp seeds are incredibly healthy. They may be one of the few superfoods worthy of their reputation.”
Themptation started off simply selling products from market stalls in London, but now the fast-growing brand’s hummus, porridge oats, oils, seeds, and vegan pesto varieties are available in stockists across the capital and the South of England, including Planet Organic.
