Cruelty-free, vegan-friendly, natural beauty brand The Detox Market has opened its first-ever New York City store.

The brand has pre-existing stores in West Hollywood, Santa Monica, Los Angeles, and Toronto, however, the new NYC location, which took the company six years to find, is its biggest so far. “We finally found our home in NYC,” said founder Romain Galliard in a statement. “My vision was to create a space to gather our community. Patience paid off because we found the perfect spot.”

The 2,100 square foot flagship store, located in the heart of Manhattan, is three floors of “immersive sensory experience,” notes the brand. The first two floors feature ash wood beauty counter islands decorated with a selection of plants; also used as ingredients in a number of the brands’ products. The third floor, aka the roof garden, is a “luscious rooftop event space.”

Created out of a love of all things natural, pure, and healthy, The Detox Market began as a pop-up on Venice Beach back in 2010. Since then, the brands’ ethos has remained the same, with all products containing cruelty-free high-quality ingredients. The company even has a “banned list,” assuring customers that substances which have proven carcinogenic effects or cause harm to the reproductive system, the brain, the organs, or indeed the environment, will not be used.

“The Detox Market was born from a love for purity and an eagerness to support our communities in their heathful lifestyles,” notes the brands’ website. It adds, “Our mission [is] to create an educated community of health and beauty experts and to offer pure, effective, and elegant products…we are passionate about being the go-to resource for those who already believe in the power of pure products, and educating those who are new to green beauty and want to learn more.”

The vegan-friendly, cruelty-free cosmetics industry is booming. According to one recent report by Mintel, vegan beauty launches represent a 175 percent increase from July 2013 to June 2018. The trend, according to the company, is being led by Millenials and members of Generation Z. Be it food, beauty, or clothing; young people are becoming increasingly conscious in their consumerism, for animal welfare, health, and environmental-related reasons.

The Detox Market’s new store is located at 76E Houston St and Elizabeth St, Manhattan.
