Sopranos Star, Edie Falco, Opens Up About Going Vegan for the Animals

Emmy Award Winning, Edie Falco, best known for her roles as Carmela Soprano in HBO’s hit “The Sopranos”, was recently interviewed by Parade about her new role as famed attorney Leslie Abramson for Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders. The star also briefly spoke about her life and more specifically about her recent transition to veganism after being a vegetarian for over 16 years:

“I work with PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). That’s one reason I became vegan. It’s hard to justify working for animal rights when you eat animal-based foods. Animals are mistreated in ways I had not imagined. I believe this is at the base of everything bad in society—you can bring it back to cruelty to animals. If you don’t have respect for life of any kind, it will manifest in more obvious ways.”

Falco, who has two rescue dogs herself, has worked with animal rights organization PETA for several years to help shed light on the cruelties of the circus, the importance of pet adoption and animal protection.

“Once you’ve seen [the undercover factory-farming footage], you can’t pretend you didn’t. It’s over. The stamp is in my brain, and the idea that we commit such atrocities against animals—it will be our fatal flaw as humans, I think, to not bring the situation to light and stop it.”

Alongside her veganism, Falco maintains a healthy balanced lifestyle by going to the gym regularly, taking aerobics classes and doing Pilates.
