Feminist Porn Director Claims Veganism Aligns With Her Ethical Beliefs

Feminist adult filmmaker, Erika Lust, has taken to Instagram to announce her decision to go vegan this 2018.

Lust, who directors pornographic films for people ‘who don’t think that sex always has to be presented as cheap, tasteless and vulgar,’ believes that this new lifestyle change is in line with her morals, as well as being good for her body.

In a blog post entitled ‘Hello 2018, Good Bye Carnism’ Lust talks about her motivations for going vegan this year. ‘I grew up with one idea of the world, and now I’ve realised that I was wrong,’ she begins, admitting that she believed all humans must eat animals for the sake of their health. However, after an overindulgent trip to Costa Rica, where Lust had ‘several huge feasts’ all inundated with animal products, things began to change.

For one, many of her followers were commenting on an image of her holding a huge plate of meat saying things like ‘a plate of dead animals, not sexy at all.’ After her holiday food binge, she also realised just how lethargic and grumpy she was feeling. These things combined made her realise it was time for a change.

Lust watched both Dr. Melanie Joy’s popular Ted Talk and the highly discussed documentary What the Health which she said ‘solidified [her] desire to do something about [her] diet.’

Besides,’ she says. ‘I think that being respectful towards animals and nature goes hand in hand with many of my main beliefs (sic), especially when it comes to feminism. I can’t believe that it took so long for me to awaken!

Lust points to Veganuary as a great resource for those trying to make the switch. She ends her blog post by asking ‘Are you up for this challenge?

If, like Lust, you’re choosing to make a change to your diet this new year, you can sign up to Veganuary here, for support and resources.
