Hershey’s Is Launching a Vegan Milk Chocolate Bar

Vegan chocolate lovers—your dairy-free cocoa prayers have been answered. Hershey’s is launching a range of vegan chocolate bars. And we can’t wait to try ‘em!

The non-dairy treats are currently only available at Soul Miner’s Garden. The vegan food truck operates in Charlotte, North Carolina, and offers a number of plant-based options, including nachos, veggie bowls, and tasty sides like collard greens and rosemary garlic fries. And now, customers can indulge in a vegan chocolate bar, too.

Soul Miner’s Garden made the announcement of the new candy bars on Facebook, writing: “VEGAN CHOCOLATE ALERT! We got our hands on these plant based @hersheys chocolate bars and we think everyone should try them. Catch us out next week and don’t forget to add one to your order!”

Sasha Quinn, the food truck’s owner, says she accidentally came across the chocolates while grocery shopping at Target. “I stumbled across these all vegan Hershey bars in a big box at the store but they were untagged,” she explains. “I decided to buy all that were out with the thought that we could sell them on the truck because this is my first time ever seeing them.”

Hershey’s Oat Made bars will come in flavors like Extra Creamy Almonds & Sea Salt and Classic Dark. The company has yet to release more details about the launch of its new bars. LIVEKINDLY has reached out for additional details.

The chocolate company first hinted at vegan chocolate bars in February. The brand revealed plans to launch vegan and dairy-free candies as part of its “Better-for-You” initiative.

The company didn’t specify what kind of vegan products it would launch. But, in a press release, it revealed the company planned to “expand its future portfolio to deliver more reduced sugar, organic and plant-based alternatives while also continuing to build its classic array of beloved products.”

Hershey’s isn’t the first candy giant to release vegan chocolate bars. In June, Nestlé launched vegan KitKats, called KitKat V, in the U.K.-based supermarket Sainsbury’s. The non-dairy treats feature a crisp wafer covered in rice milk chocolate.

Louise Barrett, Head of the Nestlé Confectionery Product Technology Centre, said the company “worked very hard to get the right balance between the milk alternative and the cocoa. The result is a vegan chocolate that we’re very proud of, and that we hope will be enjoyed by KitKat fans everywhere.”

A number of vegan companies are also churning out dairy-free chocolate bars. Go Max Go makes non-dairy versions of classic chocolate bars, including Snickers, Twix, and Milky Way. Nelly’s Organics makes vegan, fair trade candy bars in varieties like peanut butter coconut and caramel nougat. No Whey Foods also makes a number of vegan chocolates, including Chocolate Candy Nougat and Caramel bars and Milkless bars. For a complete guide to vegan chocolate bars, click here.
