Hilton Hotels & Resorts is dipping its toes into the fast-growing vegan movement. The international chain created a vegan hotel suite at its Bankside location in Southwark, London.

The idea is the first of its kind in London, and possibly the world.

Designed alongside London studio Bompas & Parr and The Vegan Society, the hotel room draws inspiration from pineapples, which are heavily featured in the suite.

Armchairs, cushions, pouffes, headboards, and even keycards are made with Piñatex, a natural leather derived from the cellulose fibers of pineapple leaves. The swap is a defiant move away from animal-derived leather, known for its unethical practices and harsh environmental impact.

The room features sustainable bamboo flooring. Instead of curtains made from silk, a material produced by boiling silkworms in their cocoons, Hilton used soybeans to make the soft, fluttery fabric.

Guests at the hotel can use a “Pillow Menu” to select their desired pillow kind. Passing on feather down, pillows are stuffed with organic buckwheat hulls, natural kapok, or organic millet husks. Orthopedic memory foam pillows are also available, made with shredded bamboo fibers or allergen-friendly recycled cluster polyester.

The room’s minibar features only locally sourced plant-based snacks and the room service menu includes juice, muesli, potato hash, and meals featuring vegan Quorn meat.

The housekeeping trolley is stocked only with eco-friendly, cruelty-free cleaning products. Even the room’s pen was chosen for its animal-free ink.

Speaking about the progressive idea, Bankside London general manager James B. Clarke said“Here at Hilton London Bankside, we’re always looking at ways to innovate and bring new experiences to our guests.”

“Our Oxbo restaurant offering is already expansive, catering to many different dietary requirements, so we thought, why not apply the same concept to our rooms?” He added.

“Veganism is not just a dining trend,” Clarke said. “It has become a lifestyle choice for many, and in turn, we want to be the first hotel to be able to offer those who follow the plant-based lifestyle the chance to fully immerse themselves within it from the moment they walk into the hotel.”
