Your Dream Job? Holland’s Is Hiring a Vegan Pie Taster

Are you a “keen, enthusiastic pastry lover” with an interest in vegan food? If you are, Holland’s Pies may have just the job for you.

The Lancashire-based company is looking for a taster to review its new vegetarian and vegan pies and pastries.

The chosen candidate will attend Pie Panel meetings every six months. They will review the brand’s plant-based products either remotely or at the factory.

As payment, they will receive a year’s worth of treats, reports British Baker.

Earlier this month, Holland’s Pies launched its first-ever vegan product, the Vegan Roll, in Morrison’s supermarkets.

According to Amy Farnworth, a reporter for the local newspaper the Lancashire Telegraph, the roll is pretty spot-on in terms of its similarity to meat.

“The pastry was soft and thick, not overly flaky, like a traditional sausage roll,” she wrote. She later added, “I couldn’t tell it wasn’t meat either.

The pie company also recently added two new vegetarian options to its range, including a Vegetarian Mince & Gravy Pie.

With the help of its new taster, Holland’s Pies intends to keep expanding its range of meatless products.

Winning a Place on the Pie Panel

“With the rising trend of meat-free diets, we wanted to ensure we had the expert opinion of a meat-free consumer on our panel to help us to continue to develop our range and grow our loyal fan base,” brand manager Leanne Holcroft said in a statement.

To get a place on the Pie Panel, hopefuls must submit a 250-word-long application via email to the company by May 22 explaining why they deserve the opportunity.

“We’re looking for someone who is passionate about pastry and with a keen interest in vegan and vegetarian food, to taste and feedback on our meat-free ranges,” added Holcroft. “They’ll be rewarded with a year’s supply of pastry goodness after each meeting. What better way to be paid?

Holland’s Pies isn’t the first company to look for its own plant-based food expert. Earlier this year, Papa John’s appointed its first Chief Vegan Pizza Officer. Clare Every, who runs Instagram account The Little London Vegan, works with the chain’s head of research and development to create new plant-based products.
