IKEA Launches Vegan Oat Milk for Coffee

You can now get your coffee with dairy-free oat milk and a vegan buttered roll at IKEA.

The two dairy-free options, made by Danish plant-based food brand Naturli’ Foods, are now available in IKEA stores across Denmark. The vegan butter is made from a blend of organic almonds, shea, coconut, and rapeseed oil, and is said to melt like traditional butter.

“Now IKEA Denmark lets you enjoy your coffee and bread roll just the way you love it – with Naturli Organic Spreadable and Naturli’ Organic Oat Drink in portion sizes. And we promise… They are easy to assemble ?,” Naturli’ Foods wrote on LinkedIn.

Naturli’ Foods

Naturli’ Foods specializes in vegan meat and dairy products like sausages, mince, pea protein-based chicken, ice cream, milk, and butter. Its products can be found major supermarkets across Denmark, the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, and soon, the US.

“We believe that plant-based food is good for the world, good for you and above all, good for animals,” states the website. “Naturli’ products have therefore no animal traces. In other words, the entire Naturli’ range is 100% plant-based.”

A growing body of research backs this up. A plant-based diet has been shown to lower risk for chronic health conditions such as heart disease and type-2 diabetes. Animal agriculture has been identified as one of the major contributors to climate change while a recent major study called on a global reduction in meat consumption.

Vegan at IKEA

Offering more vegan food is in line with IKEA’s mission of having a positive impact on the planet. The Swedish furniture giant aims to adopt more sustainable practices through packaging, energy use, and even growing its own greens in hydroponic gardens at some locations.

IKEA recently began serving vegan strawberry soft serve ice cream at its Bistro restaurants across Europe and hopes to expand it to the U.S. and other countries. Its meat-free hot dogs, launched in cafes in late 2018, became a smash hit. It’s not available in a frozen 10-pack for easy dinners. Sustainable seaweed-based caviar, vegan Swedish meatballs, gelatin-free gummies, and dairy-free oat milk smoothies are also available at IKEA.
