IKEA Now Has a Vegan Kids Menu

IKEA just launched a vegan kids menu in the Netherlands.

The new menu includes a vegetable burger, fries, a piece of fruit, and flavored water. All orders from the children’s menu come with a free coloring book and crayons.

IKEA’s growing range of vegan food is part of its commitment to sustainability. The Swedish furniture giant also offers the popular Veggie Hot Dog, vegan meatballs, seaweed-based caviar, and dairy-free soft-serve ice cream.

Fifty percent of all hot meals served by IKEA restaurants are now vegan or vegetarian.

Converting Carnivores

IKEA is developing an extra “realistic” vegan meatball. The company designed the product to encourage meat-eaters and flexitarians to try a more sustainable version of an IKEA staple.

Speaking at the World Food Summit in September, IKEA Food Managing Director Michael La Cour described IKEA’s meatballs as its “icon product.”

“Our ambition is to make healthier and more sustainable eating easy, desirable and affordable without compromising on taste and texture,” La Cour said.

“We see a growing demand from our customers to have access to more sustainable food options,” added La Cour. “We want to meet that need.”

IKEA UK recently announced it would be going turkey-free this Christmas and offering an entirely meat-free menu instead. The plant-based main will be a Root Vegetable Tart Tatin, featuring flaky puff pastry seasoned with thyme and topped with glazed root veggies.

There will also be a vegetarian option of a Brie and Cranberry Open Tart. The tarts come with a side of “veg aplenty.” IKEA will offer vegan mince pies for dessert.

“We know that Christmas Dinners are an important part of the festive season,” said IKEA in a statement. “We really want to encourage our customers to try something new this year.”

“Both our meat-free dishes are packed full of flavour, to showcase how more sustainable options can be just as tasty,” said IKEA.

To celebrate National Vegan Month, IKEA UK offered IKEA Family Members a vegan meal, dessert, and hot drink for £5 throughout November.
