The Impossible Whopper Is Coming to Burger King Canada

The Impossible Whopper is coming to Burger King Canada starting next month.

Participating locations across Ontario started serving the Impossible Whopper on Tuesday and a nationwide rollout is happening on April 12.

Matt Wright, General Manager, Burger King Canada, said in a statement that Canadians “are increasingly interested in options without beef. That’s why we’re thrilled to have worked with the team at Impossible Foods to create a burger that is truly just as juicy and delicious as the classic Whopper.”

Is the Impossible Whopper Vegan?

The meat-free Whopper features a soy-based patty developed in conjunction with Redwood City, California-based food technology company Impossible Foods. It comes with a sesame seed bun and sliced tomatoes and onions, lettuce, pickles, ketchup, and egg-based mayonnaise.

Burger King introduced the Impossible Whopper across the U.S. in August 2019 following a successful trial run in St. Louis, Missouri.

“We’ve been delighted by the popularity of the Impossible Whopper in the United States and are thrilled to bring it to our Impossible Foods fans in Canada,” said Dennis Woodside, President of Impossible Foods.

In the U.S., Burger King’s vegan menu also includes fries, the Dutch Apple Pie, Hash Browns, and more. But, options at Burger King Canada are limited. The fries contain milk and the Veggie Burger contains milk and eggs, but the Onion Rings are free from animal products.

You can make the Impossible Whopper vegan by ordering it without the mayo. But, it is cooked on a shared grill with conventional meat. So, if cross-contamination squicks you out, ask the staff to heat it up in the microwave. Or, you can make your own burger at home; Soeby’s, the second-largest food retailer in Canada, launched the Impossible Burger late last year.
