Indian Actor Vidyut Jammwal Says a Vegan Diet Keeps Him Fit

Indian film actor and trained martial artist Vidyut Jammwal has attributed his vegan diet to keeping him fit and healthy.

In a new PETA campaign for India’s National Nutrition Week, the actor shows off his muscular physique alongside the words “Kick the meat habit. Go vegan.”

National Nutrition Week began in 1973, founded by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. This year, the initiative is asking Indian citizens to “Go Further with Food,” encouraging them to explore different sources of nutrition. This is a cause Jammwal can get behind, as the star is frequently questioned on his protein sources. To this he says, “[I get it from] exactly [the same place that] herbivorous animals like elephants, horses, and rhinos do: plants.” He continued in the statement“Being vegan helps me keep fit. I love the way I feel.”

Before making the leap to veganism, Jammwal lived meat-free for many years. In 2014, the actor was crowned the hottest vegetarian celebrity of the previous year. “I believe that everybody should be vegetarian because it has a lot of benefits,” he told PETA at the time.

“Being a vegetarian keeps you agile, keeps you on your toes and doesn’t make you feel lazy,” he continued. “I personally believe that being vegetarian is the way because I have felt the changes – I have seen myself evolve as a human being, mentally as well as physically.”

Jammwal isn’t the only Indian celebrity to speak about the benefits of living a compassionate lifestyle. In June, model, singer, and actress Anushka Manchanda, who is a rumored vegan, spoke out about the problems animals and the environment face in the present day.

“We are losing our connection with nature,” she told the Indian Express. “We disrespect our planet, each other as humans, and other beings that live on this earth.” She continued, “Nature has the answer to all our problems. It recharges us and nurtures us. We must reconnect with it. Animal welfare is a cause close to my heart.”
