Lady Gaga Rocks a 100% Vegan Leather Dress

Lady Gaga stepped into the launch of her newest venture, makeup brand Haus Laboratories, in style. She made her appearance wearing a midi-length strapless black vegan leather dress.

Lady Gaga arrived at West Hollywood eatery A.O.C. for the launch party. The vegan leather dress is from Anouki’s Fall 2019 collection, Vogue reports. The brand was founded by Georgian fashion designer Anouki Areshidze in 2013 and is a favorite of vegan English singer Jessie J and reality star Khloe Kardashian.

The Mother Monster completed the look with black nails, fishnets, and sparkling accent pieces. She wore her hair high, echoing bouffants of the 1960s and a smoky eye look, presumable from Haus Laboratories. Her platform heels appear to be Pleaser’s XTREME-1020 ankle boots, which are made from black faux leather.

But Lady Gaga’s evening look is far from completely vegan: the “Telephone” singer wore an ostrich feather and fox fur jacket from Dominican-American fashion designer Oscar de la Renta’s spring/summer 2019 collection. In California and New York, lawmakers are fighting to have the sale of fur banned on the grounds of animal cruelty. At the very least, Lady Gaga’s look is a step up from the notorious meat dress worn to the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards.

Lady Gaga Goes Cruelty-Free

Lady Gaga became the latest celebrity to announce her own beauty line earlier this month, with the countdown to the pre-order for Haus Laboratories. The line features lip gloss and liners, shimmer powder, and eye shadow. In an Instagram post last week, the brand wrote “Cruelty-free & vegan, because we love animals and you.” According to Yahoo! Lifestyle, the lip glosses and liners are already top sellers in their respective categories on Amazon.

The “Shallow” singer told Business of Fashion that her makeup brand aims to challenge modern-day beauty standards. “I have a platform in the world,” said Gaga. “God gave me this voice for a reason, I don’t know why, I ask myself that question all the time. But I’m sure as hell not going to put out a beauty brand that is going to drive insecurity and fear into people. This is about liberation.”
