Lewis Hamilton Launches Vegan Sneaker Collection With Tommy Hilfiger

Updated September 7, 2019. | Five-time Formula One World Champion, vegan athlete Lewis Hamilton, has teamed up with Tommy Hilfiger again to launch a streetwear line.

The collection, which launched on September 2, marks the third collaboration between Hamilton and the iconic American brand. This time around the collection’s focus is “all-terrain travel with timeless sartorial looks for the city,” according to the brand.

Tommy x Lewis

Hamilton showed off the new vegan TOMMYXLEWIS sneakers in his Instagram Stories.

The Fall 2019 TOMMYXLEWIS collection features vegan sneakers, wallets, bags, and clothing items. Not all of the products are vegan-friendly (the line includes a coat made from wool and a down-filled parka), but a majority are made without the use of animal products.

Hamilton and Hilfiger will present the collection on the evening of September 16 at Milan Fashion Week.

Previous TOMMYXLEWIS collections have featured vegan items, including hoodies, joggers, shorts, denim jackets, t-shirts, bags, hats, shoes, and socks.

Hamilton brings his “distinctive aesthetic” to the American fashion brand, Tommy Hilfiger said of the collaboration from earlier this year, for a “bold collection of streetwear with an urban edge.”

The collaboration produced a pair of vegan men’s sneakers. The shoes, which are a “marshmallow” color, are made with faux leather, recycled mesh, and rubber. They feature a retro high-top shape and touch fastener straps, giving off a “lively ’80s streetwear energy.” The footwear comes complete with a Hamilton monogram embroidery on the strap.

Hamilton’s third Tommy Hilfiger collaboration also includes bags.

Lewis Hamilton and Veganism

Hamilton adopted a plant-based diet in 2017 after watching “What The Health,” a documentary that studies the connection between diet and disease. The driver said that ditching animal products helped him feel “the best I’ve ever felt in my life.”

Since the switch, Hamilton has become more interested in the ethics of veganism. He has used his platform to speak out about various animal welfare issues, using Instagram – where he has 11 million followers – to raise awareness about topics close to his heart like whale and trophy hunting.
