India’s largest vegan event, the One Earth Festival (formerly known as The Ahimsa Festival), is set to return to Mumbai this December for the third year in a row.

The One Earth Festival was founded in 2016 by the Ahimsa Parmo Dharma Group (APDG), an organization that promotes an Ahimsak lifestyle of nonviolence in all aspects of life.

“Ahimsa is the language of every heart and soul. A compassionate way of living for Animals, Health and Environment,” wrote the APDG. “It is a cruelty-free and non-violent way of living. Our objective in organizing this festival is to create awareness and inspiration for one and all to embrace a compassionate lifestyle.”

The 2018 One Earth Festival will feature more than 40 vegan food vendors accompanied by a seating area that can accommodate up to 200 guests, an “Ahimsa Mall” that will showcase a variety of cruelty-free products, an organic farmer’s market, a space for NGOs to promote awareness of environmental and animal issues, and a shamiana – a type of Indian ceremonial tent – for sponsors.

Vegan First reports that the Mumbai festival’s lineup of guests include Ingrid Newkirk, founder of international animal rights organization PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), Dr. Tramod Tripathi, creator of the Freedom from Diabetes program, award-winning doctor and creator of Indian holistic health organization SHARAN, Dr. Nandita Shah, author and spiritual teacher Nithya Shanti, and vegan mountaineer Kuntal Joisher.

Food vendors include White Cub dairy-free ice cream, Organza Foods, and vegan sweets, and more. Other festival events include vegan cooking demos, a cruelty-free fashion show, a fitness space dedicated to outdoor activities, eco-friendly workshops, children’s activities, and youth activism.

In addition to organizing the event, the APDG hosts a number of Mumbai-based events throughout the year, like vegan potlucks, cooking demos, and talks from advocates. It has also hosted a business conference to promote startups and is currently working to form a vegan trade council to provide vegan companies with additional support.

The One Earth Festival is set to take place on December 2 at the JVPD Ground in Juhu, Mumbai. For tickets, see here. For more information on guests and vendors, visit the Facebook event page.
