Olivia Colman Supports London’s Vulnerable Communities with Vegan Meal Deliveries

Olivia Colman recently helped to deliver vegan meals to London’s most vulnerable communities.

The Academy Award-winning English actor teamed up with plant-based community food kitchen and cookery school Made In Hackney. The charity is providing 500 emergency meals per day to people in need during the pandemic.

Colman “rolled up her sleeves” and helped make 100 meals, which she then helped deliver around Hackney.

Olivia Colman came to visit our Emergency Meal service! It’s not every day an award-winning movie star visits your charity program and is not only lovely but rolls up her sleeves and gets stuck in,” Made In Hackney wrote on Instagram, alongside a photo of Colman delivering meals.

The charity added in a separate post: “We’re on track to provide 34,080 meals by mid-June … Thank you for helping us make this happen. We find this number staggering, simultaneously proud of the service whilst devastated at the level of need—much of which is still not being met.

Colman herself wrote for the Evening Standard“In the midst of this deadly virus and economic crash, it is cheering to see how quickly and efficiently so many people are rising to the challenge.”

Celebs Provide Vegan Meals During Quarantine

Last month, Maggie Baird—mother to vegan singer Billie Eilish and her music producer brother Finneas Baird—helped launch Support and Feed in the U.S.

The initiative works with a number of organizations, including Conscious Cleanup. Together, they help supply plant-based meals to hospitals, shelters, and first responders across Los Angeles and New York City.

The goal of the initiative is to support workers on the front lines amid the coronavirus pandemic, as well as vegan businesses.

Lockdown measures are currently in place to limit the spread of COVID-19. Restaurants are only able to provide food for takeout or delivery.

Friday, our New York team delivered 20 meals to front line workers at a hotel turned COVID homeless shelter,” Support and Feed wrote on Instagram.

It added: “150 formerly homeless, diagnosed with COVID were sent to this downtown hotel to convalesce. The staff is mostly vegan and was excited to receive these individually crafted meals by Beyond Sushi NYC.”
