Peter Andre Attempts to Go Vegan to Prove a Point to Piers Morgan

(Updated January 19, 2020) | Singer-songwriter Peter Andre is going vegan—but only for one week—as a dig at Piers Morgan. The “Good Morning Britain” host has been vocal about his disdain for vegan food, even spitting out the Greggs vegan sausage roll into a trash bin last year.

The “Mysterious Girl” singer and his partner, Emily, recently shared a video clip of their plant-based supper on Instagram. “Paying homage to @piersmorgan who as we all know is a vegan lover/fanatic. We are going vegan for one week only (if I last),” Andre said.

He might make it through those seven days. The Australian singer later added: “It was flipping amazing. Very surprised how tasty actually. Ps [sic] excuse the mess in the background. Christmas is still here.”

He also shared the ingredients for the dish: sauteed onions, sundried tomatoes, pumpkin seeds, raisins, brown rice, broccoli, and roasted butternut squash with fresh cilantro. It was dressed with balsamic vinegar, olive oil, garlic, and English mustard.

“Good Morning Britain” co-cost Charlotte Hawkins commented: “Looks good! You should bring some in for Piers to try…”

After a week of trying a plant-based diet, Andre took to Instagram to share that he will go back to eating meat, but only on the weekends. “Ok so after a week of going vegan I’ve become Megan. Vegan through the week meat on weekends. Emily wins this one……for now,” he wrote.

Piers Morgan vs. Vegans

Morgan has been accused of many things by viewers due to his contentious viewpoints. He has a storied history of making transphobic comments despite calling himself “a big supporter of transgender rights,” ranging from calling non-binary children a “disease” to asking trans people about their genitals. More recently, he was accused of being a racist and a bully by InfluencHers, an activist group made up of more than one hundred Black women, in the wake of the Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepping back as senior members of the royal family.

Morgan is also avidly anti-vegan. Earlier this month, he launched into a tirade over Greggs’ new vegan steak bakes. “It’s not a steak,” he said of the new savory pastry. Co-host Susanna Reid interjected that “it’s made from vegan steak,” but Morgan argued that a Google image search of steak would bring up pictures of traditional steak to support his argument.

He continued, branding the steak bake “rubbish” and stating that he couldn’t try it. I was vomiting last time,” he said, referring to when he had tried the bakery chain’s vegan sausage roll.

When Hawkins brought up that the meat-free steak bake is “saving cows,” it set Morgan off on a rant about the sustainability of avocados and almonds.
