Police Give Out Vegan Turkey Roasts to Families in Traffic

West Liberty police in Iowa made the holidays a little brighter for 20 families when they handed out free vegan turkey roasts at otherwise normal traffic stops. The artisan, vegan roasts, made by Field Roast, are made specifically for this time of year and are filled with popular holiday fixings like butternut squash, apples, and mushrooms.

The idea came from PETA, who heard of the police’s “Turkey for Tickets initiative.” Instead of turkeys, however, they thought they’d donate some animal-free roasts for the police to give out. KWQC reported:

“Officers happily handed out the tofurkeys[sic]. West Liberty Police Chief Kary Kinmonth says, ‘holiday time is a time for giving, there is never a shortage of folks that could use a little help.'”

These are not common items either. In fact, these roasts often sell out, quickly, wherever they are, with people rushing to get them the day they’re made available. Thankfully, there are many vegan alternatives to the roast. Whether you need last minute advice on how to host vegan parties for the holidays or some sweet plant based dessert recipes, we’ve got you covered.

The holiday season is a time for giving. May these roasts help the families that received them and (potentially) inspire them to consider plant based eating, as they’ll get to see first hand — or taste in this case — just how delicious vegan food can be.
