Canadian shoe and accessories retailer CALL IT SPRING has launched a budget-friendly vegan leather shoe collection.

The brand announced its Spring 2019 collection will be completely vegan and will include vegan leather shoes and bags.

All collections going forward will be vegan due to growing customer demand for cruelty-free products. “CALL IT SPRING noticed a growing demand for vegan footwear, particularly over the last few years as veganism has become increasingly adopted,” states the website.

CALL IT SPRING said of the change, “Becoming vegan is not just a trend, it is the beginning of our journey.

As well as being vegan, the range is certified by international animal rights group PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), meaning “products are 100% cruelty-free and created from all-vegan materials.

The range has already been spotted in stores, with one Facebook user posting a photo in the “Vegans Take Dubai” group. The range is clearly marked with a dedicated symbol to make it easier for customers to identify which products are vegan.

The new range will feature shoes made of vegan leather

The Rise of Sustainable Vegan Fashion

As well as the vegan diet gaining popularity, many people are paying more attention to how their clothes are made.

Brands such as Urban Outfitters and H&M are aiding the rise in sustainable and cruelty-free fashion by selling affordable options. Whilst Urban Outfitters stock a range of brands that are more eco-friendly, H&M recently launched its own sustainable fashion range featuring pineapple leather.

Traditional leather substitutes such as PVC often come under fire for being environmentally damaging. However, Danish vegan shoe brand, Nature Footwear is one company that uses pineapple leather to make its shoes.

The brand explains on its website, “The leaves are the byproduct of existing agriculture, and their use creates an additional income stream for farming communities.”

Pineapples aren’t the only “waste” material being converted into new fabrics. Many vegan handbag brands are now turning plastic bottles into an ultra-fine thread that can then be woven into linings.

Matt & Nat states on its website that all its handbags linings are made from 100 percent recycled plastic bottles and JW PEI uses a microfibre leather alternative in its products. It also donates 10 percent of every sale to animal sanctuaries.

CALL IT SPRING has stores across the world as well as its online store.
