Starbucks Is Now Testing Vegan Cream Cheese
A Starbucks in a small town outside of Seattle is testing vegan cream cheese.

Vegan breakfast options just got a little sweeter—at least in Washington state. One Starbucks in Issaquah—a small town outside of Seattle—is testing Miyoko’s Creamery vegan cream cheese.

The coffee giant is trialing two exclusive flavors of Miyoko’s Creamery’s cashew-based cream cheese spread: Cinnamon Raisin and Everything.

In addition to the two new flavors, the dairy-free company makes its cultured cream cheese in the flavors Classic Plain, Savory Scallion, and Fish-Free Lox.

“I created this rich, cultured, real food cream cheese to satisfy my craving for a flavorful schmear on my morning bagel,” Miyoko Schinner, the CEO of Miyoko’s Creamery, wrote on the company’s website.

Miyoko’s also revealed on its Instagram that its vegan cream cheese spreads—along with its other non-dairy options like butter and cheese—are now available at Rouses Markets locations throughout Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi.

Starbucks Gets More Vegan Options

This isn’t the first time the coffee chain has added more vegan options to its menu.

Starbucks UK is set to launch vegan whipped cream for its pumpkin spice latte (yum!) in October. In August, Starbucks UK locations also launched a limited-edition Peanut Butter Cup Frappuccino that can be made vegan.

And earlier this month, Starbucks Hong Kong revealed the launch of two new menu items featuring Impossible Foods’ vegan meat. Locations throughout the region now serve the Maize Impossible Sandwich—which features egg, mayonnaise, and cheese—and the Spiced Impossible Puff.

Starbucks Hong Kong also announced the release of a vegan chocolate breadstick and three new non-dairy coffee drinks: the Almond Milk Nutty Latte, the Oat Milk Cocoa Macchiato, and the Soymilk Sesame Latte. The three beverages are also available in eight other markets across Asia.

The company said the expansion of its plant-based menu was due to an increase in consumer demand for vegan products. Starbucks also credited its goal of being a resource-positive company for its addition of vegan items.
