Vegan actor Natalie Portman requested an entirely vegan wardrobe for her role in the upcoming musical drama "Vox Lux." In the film, Portman's character dons a metallic purple vegan leather jacket. "Vox Lux" tells the story of 13-year-old Celeste - who Portman portrays as an adult - who survives a school shooting in New York. The film follows the trajectory of Celeste's life, navigating the highs and lows of becoming a successful pop star. Deadline reports that Portman, an animal rights advocate, asked the film's costume designer Keri Langerman, “Is it possible if we could just not use animal products for my costumes?” https://www.instagram.com/p/BmdpipJBrNX/?utm_sourceig_embed Langerman was happy to oblige; "absolutely," she told the star. Langerman revealed she previously worked with award-winning vegan actor Rooney Mara, and commented that veganism is "something that I'm fully behind." Much of Portman's wardrobe, like her stylish jackets, came from Blank NYC - you can purchase other vegan-friendly jackets by Blank online. Langerman sourced Portman's jeans were from R13. Working with animal-conscious artists has made Langerman consider whether she could adopt a cruelty-free position on all of her projects. "It actually makes me wonder if I could do this with more, if not every project, because it is a senseless use of an animal, when you can get a cinematic, stunning movie without that," she told Deadline. Langerman added, "I really admired that had her morals, and she wanted to stick to them, but it wasn’t something that she felt she needed to impose on people in an aggressive way. It just felt really natural, and when she asked, it was super easy, and we did it." "I don’t think it was any harder; it was just a different way of doing costumes," Langerman noted. Portman is the narrator of vegan documentary Eating Animals, which looks at the environmental, economical, and public health concerns associated with factory farming. The actor, who is vocal about her lifestyle, has been awarded for her environmental activism as well as speaking out about animal rights. Image Credit: NEON Become a CLUBKINDLY member today!
