Tesco Made a Heart-Shaped Vegan Brownie Cake and It Has Over 14g Protein

Tesco is here to win over your heart this Valentine’s Day. The UK’s largest supermarket chain has launched a love-themed vegan brownie cake just in time for February 14.

The brownie cake, which is shaped like a heart, is made with coconut milk, almond flour, and golden syrup, making it “rich and gooey,” according to the product’s description. The “irresistible dessert” is topped with smooth dairy-free chocolate ganache and a dusting of red sparkle to add a “romantic finishing touch.”

The cake also delivers 14.2 grams of protein, notably higher than similar products that can contain animal products.

Vegan Valentine’s Day

Tesco isn’t the only brand making vegan food for Valentine’s Day. Fellow UK supermarket chain Asda launched vegan heart-shaped crumpets and is also selling pink gin, ideal for Galentine’s Day.

Moving away from sweet treats, Marks & Spencer crafted a heart-shaped vegan meat patty which is made from beetroots and guaranteed to get your date’s “heart-beet racing.” The retailer is also offering its first-ever vegan Valentine’s dinner. For £20, shoppers can purchase a plant-based starter, main, side, dessert, chocolate, and a bottle of wine.

Outside of the UK, Walmart introduced bouquets of Oreos. The inventive V-Day gift features 19 packets of vegan Oreos arranged in a vase made from cookies, topped with a bow. Oreo itself got involved in the day of love, releasing themed “Love, Oreo” cookies for the occasion. Each cookie has a saying like “Let’s Twist” or “Dunk In Love” printed on it.

Tesco’s affection for vegan eating isn’t reserved for Valentine’s day; the chain offers a huge range of plant-based food all year round under its own-brand of ready meals Wicked Kitchen, helmed by chef Derek Sarno of Wicked Healthy.

The all-vegan range includes dishes like Pineapple Dream Cake, Caponata Pizza, Fiery Filthy Wedges, Tex Mex Salad Bowl, and Bubble and Squeak Greens Sandwich.

The line, which launched last year, has proved to be popular. By June, Wicked Kitchen had more than doubled sales expectations. By August, just over 30 weeks after its launch, more than four million Wicked Kitchen meals had been purchased from Tesco.

The Chocolate Brownie Heart can be purchased from Tesco for £4. It is available until February 14th.
