Toronto’s First Vegan Cruise to Set Sail This Summer

Toronto is adding a new element to the vegfest scene. Beginning on June 22, the Toronto Vegan Boat Cruise will set sail, making this unique event the city’s first vegan festival to be held on a boat. Guests will have their choice of an array of vegan eats and drinks while enjoying an evening cruise around the Toronto Islands. Ticket sales will directly benefit the Wishing Well Sanctuary, an Ontario farm animal sanctuary and education center.

Toronto hosts an annual vegan festival, the Veg Food Fest, which is free and open to the public. The organizers decided to take the best of this popular festival and elevate it in order to create a more exclusive, intimate event. The goal is to raise money for the Wishing Well Sanctuary as well as show participants a good time with delicious vegan food and a high vibe, elegant atmosphere. Since the ticket price will go toward the sanctuary, ticket-holders are still required to purchase their food and drink.

The full vendor lineup has yet to be announced, but organizers have ensured that they have curated some of the city’s best plant-based businesses. A few vendors who have made the commitment are Boon Burger, Pierogi Me, The Hearty Hooligan, Chef Doris Fin, Sweet Sunshine Ice Cream, and Nuts for Cheese.

In addition to the food, participants will also enjoy entertainment by DJ Sole Power, who will be spinning tunes and keeping the energy high all night. Guests can also look forward to free samples from select vendors and learn more about the Wishing Well Sanctuary from a representative.

As vegan festivals continue to attract more attendees each year, these smaller breakout events are becoming more popular. Organizers have realized that many people are willing to pay for a more intimate experience, especially when their ticket price benefits an animal charity. These events are less overwhelming, as there are fewer vendors to choose from and significantly shorter lines. Vegan Street Fair, a free vegfest in Los Angeles, has embraced this model by hosting Vegan Street Fair Nights in Los Angeles and San Diego to support the area’s best vegan vendors, treat guests to a more enjoyable experience, and raise funds for a worthy animal non-profit.

Tickets and additional information for this cruise are available through the Toronto Vegan Boat Cruise Eventbrite page.
