The Ultimate Vegan Airbnb Is a Giant Potato

Potatoes are pretty much unanimously loved the world over for their carby versatile goodness; you can fry them, mash them, bake them, roast them, the list is endless.

Some call them a vegan superfood — they’re packed with vitamins, minerals, protein, and gut-friendly starch — others think of them as comfort food (does it get better than a hot jacket potato and baked beans?)

Does your love for potatoes go far enough? Are you asking yourself, “how can I prove my love for potatoes even more?” Idaho has the answer.

The Big Idaho Potato Hotel in South Boise is sadly not actually made out of potatoes — the ingredients for this Airbnb, says Insider, are steel, plaster, and concrete — but it does take the shape of a giant version of the popular vegetable.

Designed by Kristie Wolfe and weighing around six tonnes, the giant spud started its life on the back of the Big Idaho Potato Tour Truck. The truck — now famous across the United States — travels across the country promoting Idaho’s potatoes and the Big Idaho Potato Tour’s charitable initiatives.

“It travels the country promoting the certified heart-healthy Idaho Potato and its mission to help small charities in towns and cities with its A Big Helping program,” says the Big Idaho Potato website. “Not to mention that people just want to have their picture taken with a 4-Ton Idaho potato!”

Staying in a Potato Hotel

Now in retirement and replaced with a new giant tater, the old version is housing guests.

With a stylish interior, a stay in the Big Idaho Potato Hotel will set you back around $200 a night. But the hotel offers more than a giant steel vegetable to sleep in.

According to the potato’s Airbnb page, guests can also enjoy a soak in a spa under the stars, meet a “cute” jersey cow in the back garden, play old records, snack out of the mini-fridge, and take a snooze in the cozy custom-made bed.

According to the Big Idaho Potato Tour, the hotel is a “bucket list destination and spots to stay are filling up.”
