Vegan Designer Stella McCartney Attends Ethical Fashion Event at Buckingham Palace

Vegan fashion designer Stella McCartney has launched a new cruelty-free spring/summer collection.

“Our new collection is here!” the label posted on Twitter. “Discover an exploration of the signature Stella play on masculine and feminine silhouettes for an effortlessly sexy attitude.”

The new collection, available now, aims to achieve “simplicity through complex constructions” -without the use of animal products. The Stella McCartney brand consistently challenges boundaries “to make luxurious products in a way that is fit for the world we live in today and the future: beautiful and sustainable,” its mission statement reads. Adding that there are “no compromises” when it comes to sustainability.

“Each decision we make is a symbol of our commitment to defining what the future of fashion looks like,” the statement continues. “From never using leather or fur and pioneering new alternative materials to utilising cutting-edge technologies, pushing towards circularity, protecting ancient and endangered forests and measuring our impact with ground-breaking tools.”

Stella McCartney herself is a driving-force behind vegan and sustainable fashion, the designer aims to shape the future of the industry. In March, she launched a vegan wool challenge, in partnership with Stray Dog Capital and PETA, to allow students the opportunity and funding to help her with her goal. “We want to use this fabric, we want to use these designs and we want to be able to push fashion forward,” McCartney stated.

People are demanding textiles that are environmentally sustainable and can be recycled or biodegraded,” PETA added.

McCartney’s passion for sustainability runs in the family, her father, former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney, is a keen animal rights and environmental activist. His “Meat Free Mondays” campaign aims to encourage people to give up meat for at least one day a week. “If we can all join together in this effort, we can help improve the environment, reduce the negative impacts of climate change, and even improve people’s health,” McCartney said. “Through this campaign, I can say to people, ‘Just try it’ and show that it can actually be quite fun when you look at what you do, what you eat, how you live and think.”
