Vegan-Friendly Superfood Cafe 'Kale Me Crazy' Opens in America's 3rd Most Obese State

Popular superfood cafe chain Kale Me Crazy’s has opened a new location in a suburb of Birmingham, Alabama.

The juice bar, which already has locations in Georgia, Colorado, North Carolina, and Mississippi, has opened its doors to the downtown Homewood area in the nation’s third most obese state.

Franchise owner Patrick Greene says he was determined to bring the cafe to Birmingham.

According to WBRC, he said: “We are bringing a superfood cafe to Birmingham. There is nothing like it.” Greene explained that Birmingham is rife with “heavier eating” meat-based restaurants, with “very few healthy places to eat.”

“There are 11 gyms within a mile of this location, I saw a need for healthy eating for these type of healthy minded, fitness minded folk,” he added.

Greene prides himself on the fact that in the new store, “It’s all organic healthy ingredients, we make everything from scratch. It’s an authentic superfood cafe.” He also suggests that Kale Me Crazy is one of the only places in the town where consumers can purchase juices freshly made in-house.

Greene explained, “We juice every single morning, all of our ingredients are raw unpasteurized vegetables and fruits. We cold press juice.” He also reassured that “We… make our almond milk from scratch which is very rare. We use reverse osmosis water and we combine with almonds and then we cold press juice.”

Smoothies packed with vegan protein, iced matchas, and nutritional shots are also among the refreshments served.

Kale Me Crazy also offers a range of healthy plant-based foods, including acai bowls, wraps, and avocado toast.

The venture has also created jobs in the area — the store is still hiring for multiple positions. Greene encourages “healthy-minded people that are passionate about organic foods and produce” and who are “hardworking” with a “great attitude” to apply.

The Kale Me Crazy team took to Facebook on July 13th to thank Homewood for the “warm welcome” and expressed that they are “so happy to officially be open.”

The cafe is open for breakfast on weekdays from  7am, and 9am on weekends, and serves until  8pm.
