Did you know that it’s super easy and cheap to make chewy vegan jerky in pretty much any flavor you would like? Most companies currently selling vegan jerky use Butlers soy curls, which have the perfect chew and texture to make a convincingly real jerky. My recipe is for Hawaiian style jerky, but you can most definitely skip my marinade step and use any sauce of your liking such as BBQ sauce, soyaki, sweet chili or whatever sweet or spicy flavor combination you crave.

1 Package Butlers Soy Curls
For Hawaiian Marinade:
1 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 cup pineapple juice
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 tablespoon finely minced garlic
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground ginger
Empty packet of soy curls into a large bowl.
Cover soy curls with warm water and let sit for 15 minutes, until they are completely softened.
Preheat oven to 250 degrees.
Drain water from soy curls and gently squeeze out the excess with your hands.
Combine marinade ingredients in separate bowl and pour over soy curls.
Toss soy curls in marinade until evenly coated.
Place soy curls on a lined baking sheet and cook for 60 minutes, flipping them every 15 minutes so they are evenly cooked.
TIP: If you want crunchier/drier jerky leave the soy curls in an extra 15 minutes.
