New Omega-3 Packed Vegan Milk from Flaxseeds Arrives at UK Supermarket

OOOMEGA, a company priding itself on providing the “OOO without the MOO!”,  has created a plant-based health drink, the first of its kind, combining a smooth creamy taste with the nutritional benefits of flaxseeds, calcium and vitamins K, B12, and D2!

This will be the first time such a drink hits the UK, and with its three delicious-sounding flavours, no doubt they’ll be flying off the shelves! The health drink comes in ‘original’ (a simple creamy taste), ‘original sweetened’ for those with a slightly sweeter tooth, and ‘macchiato’ for the coffee lovers.

So what makes the drink so healthy?

Flaxseed oil, the drink’s significant ingredient, is notorious for being an excellent source of Omega-3 (ALA). Most people assume that this can only be found in oily fish and meat, which – if it was true – would mean those following a plant-based diet would miss out on important goodness. ALA is essential for supporting your immune system, metabolism and brain functioning, and can strengthen your hair, nails and skin. In actual fact, fish get their Omega-3 from algae, in other words, Omega-3 comes from plants regardless of whether you eat fish or not. Consuming Omega-3 straight from plants simply cuts out the middleman.

Luckily, this source is vegan, gluten-free and soy free, meaning no one has to miss out.

Not only can this drink provide all of these benefits, OOOMEGA drinks also contain other essential fatty acids, vitamins B1 and B2, potassium and calcium.

According to experts“[a]s it’s made from flaxseeds, OOOMEGA is high in an omega 3 fatty acid called alpha linoleic acid (ALA). This is an essential fatty acid, meaning that we can’t make it in our own body and must get it from food.  Our body can use ALA to make other vital omega 3 fatty acids including EPA and DHA, which help keep our heart healthy and help maintain normal blood pressure. DHA is also important for healthy eyes and brain. ALA itself has been found to have a direct role in helping to maintain healthy cholesterol levels, too.”

Not sold yet? The drink also boasts the advantages of being cholesterol free, low calorie and low in sugar.

And, if you’re not a huge fan of drinking rich-tasting drinks, you don’t need to miss out. Try using the drink to make porridge, add to a smoothie or add it to a hot drink.

Currently, the drinks are available at Waitrose and some independent health stores, but hopefully, they will become increasingly available as demand rises.
