The Conscious Candy Company is bringing an entire kilo of gelatin-free vegan sweets right to the doorsteps of British consumers.

Launching just this month, founder Laura Scott noticed a gap in the market for a completely gelatin-free pick ‘n’ mix. Meat-free for fifteen years and vegan for three, Scott struggled to find “new and exciting” vegan sweets, and tired of navigating complicated ingredients labeling. So she decided to take matters into her own hands.

Her company is “committed to finding exciting new and old time favourite pick and mix sweet so that you don’t have to worry about reading labels and can spend more time eating delicious candy,” according to the website.

Consumers can now order a “massive” kilogram box of vegan sweets, containing more than thirty varieties. Including everything from fizzy sour dinosaurs, cherry cola bottles, strawberry cheesecake foams, rainbow lollies, Drumstick chews, and rhubarb and custard hard boiled sweets, “you will be sure to find plenty of sweets to take your fancy.”

These “yummy cruelty free sweets” are also competitively priced, enabling customers to “tuck into sugary goodness without having to dig deep into your pockets.” The box retails for £9.99.

Not only are the sweets completely free from animal products, they come in environmentally-friendly packaging, too. The Conscious Candy Company uses 100 percent recyclable packaging; even the tissue paper is printed with soy ink rather than petroleum ink, because it is more sustainable. Scott hopes that the company will be fully plastic-free in the future, and also plans to work with animal charities and trusts.

The Gelatin-Free Market

The market for gelatin-free sweets is growing like never before. Candy Kittens, a gourmet, gelatin-free sweet company run by “Made in Chelsea” star Jamie Laing, even released a vegan sweet advent calendar ahead of the holiday season. Featuring four flavours of kitten-shaped soft sweets, consumers can enjoy a cruelty-free sugary treat every day of the advent period.

The booming gelatin-free market is being recognised elsewhere, too. San Leandro, California-based collagen protein startup Geltor recently raised $18.2 million to help the company transform the food and snack market with commercial quantities of animal-free gelatin.
