UK Italian restaurant chain Zizzi has launched a vegan menu for the Christmas season.
The new festive menu features a variety of both sweet and savoury classic Italian dishes, including vegan pizzas, pasta, and desserts.
The chain has divided its vegan Christmas menu into two options, both of which offer a three-course meal for a fixed price.
The Classico Menu, available for £19.95, serves a vegan bruschetta starter, plus three options for the main course. Customers can choose from the Vegan Classic Margherita Pizza, Vegan Zucca Classic Pizza – which is topped with roasted autumn vegetables and dairy-free cheese -, or a seasonal Vegan Arcobaleno Salad. Nondairy gelato and sorbet are available for dessert.
Zizzi’s Super Festivo Menu, which costs £25.95 and comes served with a drink, offers customers more options for their vegan Christmas meal. In addition to bruschetta, meat-free “polpette” meatballs made from beetroot and Tuscan soup with grilled peppers are on the menu. More pizza options are available for dinner, plus the salad, and two pasta dishes: Vegan Spaghetti Pomodoro and Melanzana Tagliatelle, served with aubergine, kale, plant-based ragu, and crispy sage.
The vegan dessert menu offers the option of a Sticky Chocolate and Praline Torte, a Dessert Calzone stuffed with banana, strawberries, raspberries, and a raspberry coulis, and dairy-free gelato or sorbet. The vegan Christmas menus are available at all Zizzi locations throughout the UK.
Like many other restaurants throughout the UK, Zizzi, known as the first high street chain to offer dairy-free cheese pizza, is catering to the growing demand for vegan food among its customers. Last November, the chain reported that sales of plant-based dishes increased 246 percent in one year, with a 104 percent increase to vegan pizza sales.
Bella Italia, an Italian chain with more than 100 locations across the UK, is also upping its vegan options. Last May, it launched vegan cheese pizza at all locations in response to customers looking for “healthier” pizza. This year’s Christmas menu features options like vegan risotto, pizza, ragu, dairy-free cheesecake.
